Exploring Iceland, the land of ice and fire, on a Ponant Cruise

Iceland seems to come out  from the pages of an ancient saga, with its primordial scenarios. Fire and ice, are the most representative elements of Iceland, a country which passed from the adventurous conquests of the Vikings, its first inhabitants, to the most advanced living standards of today's population. One way to explore this mythical island in depth, satisfying your spirit of adventure without sacrificing comfort and ease, is a cruise on a Ponent Explorers ship. The name of the cruise is already a program "Icelandic Mosaic", to indicate a complete experience to reveal in your own eyes the charms of this land located in the very far North of Europe.

During the 8-day and 7-night cruise, you will not miss the excitement caused by the unmistakable Icelandic sceneries, from fjords and high cliffs, to vast glaciers and slightly lunar lava landscapes, and from the sighting of the North Atlantic fauna, like the Puffins and the humpback whales, in addition to the typical Icelandic horse. It starts from and returns to Reykjavik, the beautiful northern capital where a third of Icelanders live. The journey refers also to the so-called Golden Circle, a route that includes the three sites not to be missed in the country, and that can be visited as optional excursions. Gulfoss, the "Golden Falls", the most famous falls of south-west Iceland, whose tumultuous waters make two jumps of 11 and 21 meters high. If you are lucky enough to visit them on a sunny day, the rays create an impressive show of colors, which form a rainbow. The Geysir region, perhaps one of the main attractions of Iceland. Here you have the feeling of communicating directly with the vibrating energies from the belly of the earth, wandering around  powerful jets of water, hot springs and fumaroles. The third site of the Gold Circle is the Thingvellir National Park, a vast lava field, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, with historical importance, since Althing was established here in 930 d.c. , perhaps the oldest Parliament in the world.
