Charming resort in Sicily

Summer has begun but unlike in previous years, those who decide to go on a holiday make the choice at the last minute. Uncertainty is a consequence of the Covid19 health emergency, so travellers expect to understand whether moving is possible. Traveling abroad increases this uncertainty, therefore most Italians are preferring destinations within the country's borders. One thing is for sure that Sicily is one of my favorites among these destinations. Last week we published an article to recommend the places in Sicily to visit, I will focus instead on some 5-star structures where just staying is an experience worth the trip.

The first of these resorts is located not far from Taormina, the absolute protagonist of the Sicilian beauties. Castello di San Marco is actually a 4-star hotel, but both for its location, a princely 17th century residence and for its excellent hospitality, it is a charming hotel with a rare atmosphere. In 1689 Ignazio Sebastiano Gravina Cruyllas, Prince of Patagonia had his residence built on the Catalabano beach where there is a source of water. This private beach is still available to hotel guests. Entering the Castle is a bit like entering a museum for the many antique furnishings present in the elegant rooms. 29 ancient farmhouses immersed in a four-hectare Mediterranean park welcome the suites of various sizes. The "I Mastri Flavetta" restaurant has always combined passion and refinement in the kitchen, never losing sight of the best local tradition. The chefs can count on the freshest ingredients collected from the wonderful organic garden just behind the kitchen. In summer, the charming outdoor restaurant, the Stone Garden, also opens. In the spa you can do classic and even more special treatments, such as a face mask with micronized gold!

Moving to Ragusa, on the southern coast of Sicily, we find two splendid resorts of the same property: Locanda San Serafino and Villa Don Serafino. The first is located in Ragusa Ibla, the oldest part of the city, Unesco heritage for its magnificent Baroque architecture. Near the Church of Miracles, Locanda San Serafino is above all known as one of the best restaurants in Sicily, in fact it boasts a Michelin star. The gastronomic offer is made of sea and land and the wine list offers over 1000 labels! At 500 meters there is the Locanda San Serafino Hotel, housed in a 18th century building. Only 10 accommodations, a truly intimate and exclusive place. The luxury suite, created inside the rock and with a private garden and minipool, is splendid.

If you prefer to stay by the sea and in large spaces to share with friends or family, the Don Serafino Villas are located in the seaside village of Marina di Ragusa, a few meters from the sea and the Irmino river reserve. Each villa, with a modern design that has used elegant materials such as glass and wood, can accommodate 5 people and consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen with living room, a jacuzzi on the terrace, a private garden and swimming pool. Besides being a beautiful beach of fine sand, the nearby Lido Azzurro offers a beach club with an excellent restaurant founded by Don Serafino in 1953 which offers superb seafood dishes.
